3,500 East Coast Costco Workers Ratify New Contract
Three-Year Agreement Increases Wages, Bonuses Approximately 3,500 Costco Teamsters in New Jersey, New York, Maryland and Virginia ratified a new, three-year agreement that includes wage increases and annual guaranteed bonuses. The wage and bonus increases will maintain the members’ distinction as the highest paid retail workers in the country.
Antiquated Air Traffic Control
Today, the Senate turned to the Federal Aviation Administration authorization, H.R.1586. The last four-year authorization expired September 30, 2007. What caused this 2½ year delay? Congress couldn’t agree on how to apportion the excise and ticket taxes to pay for a desperately needed modernization of the air traffic control system.
Civil Rights Martyr Viola Liuzzo
One of the most notable women in Teamster history is Viola Liuzzo. Liuzzo was the wife of a Teamster business agent and not afraid to stand up for what she believed in. This determination to fight injustice would ultimately cost Liuzzo her life but her sacrifice helped strengthen the civil rights movement during the 1960s.

Last year, the House of Representatives passed a bill reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration and devoting $70 billion to airport infrastructure through 2012. The bill also changed an inequity in labor law which has allowed FedEx to operate under the Railway Labor Act (RLA), while other shipping companies like UPS are governed by the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA).
